The Gee’s Bend Quilters will soon be arriving in Maine!
There are many events planned to honor their visit and to celebrate quilts! Our good friend Susan Tobey White at High Street Studio & Gallery in Belfast is hosting an exhibit.

I stopped by to visit Susan at her studio last week to learn more about the show. It seems whenever we begin talking about Quilts of Gee’s Bend the conversation turns to how quilts have touched our lives and stories of Mothers, Grandmothers and Great Aunts who turned scraps of color into comfort.
Here are two of Susan’s quilts that have been passed down through the generations, The one on the left is called “The Nanny Quilt”, soft and cuddly, it has wrapped her family in warmth and love just as surely as if Nanny were present to offer her arms in a healing hug.
The quilt on the right has signatures penned carefully on each square, also know as a friendship quilt, it was made for Susan’s grandmother.
Here are some works inspired by Quilts!
